For those who believe in the ancient Hebrew proverb that cleanliness is next to Godliness, floor polishing machines are a great blessing. Indeed, if there is single person who invented this invaluable tool, he should be canonized.

Floor polishing machines consist of an engine housed inside a metal or hard plastic casing. This could be either circular or rectangular. At the bottom of the engine, circular scrub pads, brushes, polishing bricks, or other types of abrasives may be attached. An upright tube or a pole, angled away from the engine, is connected to it and ends in a T-handlebar with rubber grips. A switch box is located just below the handlebar, where a power cord, usually up to 50 feet long, extends. Other switches and levers may also be found in this box. A plastic container, used to carry cleaning solvents or any other liquid, may be fastened to the pole. A hose from the container leads to the engine casing and is positioned in such a way that it can directly spray the floor with liquid.
This design affords the user ease and comfort while cleaning the floor. It does not require bending or kneeling. The user merely stands and steers the equipment to places that need cleaning. Heavy-duty floor polishing machines sometimes have different designs but they are basically a variation of the above.
When the engine is powered on, the scrub pads or other attachments spin rapidly to dislodge dust or dirt from hard flat surfaces, or smooth out rough floors. Your equipment may either have single or variable rotation speed settings depending on its make and model. Although the quick rotation of the pads and brushes are likely to remove the dirt and dust from your floors, some stains and grime may require cleaning solvents. This is where the plastic container becomes useful. When abrading rough hard surfaces such as marble or travertine, it may also be useful to keep spraying with water to avoid too much dust.
