A few examples of such tools are:

  • Diamond resin discs. These are used for the grinding and abrading of hard surfaces such as marble, granite, or concrete. Because of their different applications, the grit sizes of the diamonds they contain vary greatly from one disc to another, ranging from a very coarse 12 to an extremely fine 3500.
  • Steel wool abrasives. The wool fibers are not as sharp as diamond grit abrasives and thus their grinding is a smoother. They are generally better at holding materials removed from the abraded surface, and better at delivering cleaning solutions.
  • Cloth. Cloth could either be cemented together for rough work, or sewn and glued for softer and finer finishing jobs.

There are other types of floor polishing pads, such as wood, canvas, leather, plastic, rubber, and sheepskin. All of these, however, have a single purpose ---to bring out the shine and luster in all kinds of surfaces.
