If you want to preserve the brand new look of your matting, you will need to vacuum, sweep, and mop it regularly. If you can handle it, do this daily. Whenever something is spilled, do a quick cleanup. Mild detergent and water should do the job. Avoid using strong cleaning solutions as this could actually cause damage and loss of sheen.
More serious cleaning is needed once a week, or, depending on the foot traffic at home, every other week. This is when you will want to use commercial cleaning solutions. Ensure, however, that the solution you purchase does not contain chemicals that could tarnish your matting. You may want to check with the mat's manufacturer. Before mopping with the solution, sweep the floor free of dust, dirt, and lint. Afterwords, rinse with clean water.
Commercial vinyl floor polish is also widely available. Again, you will want to check which brand is compatible with your mat. This ensures that what you intend to apply will actually provide a glossy surface and a protective seal helping to prevent wear and tear.
